The RSPCA has been called to capture a corn snake on the loose on Wormwood Scrubs.
The orange snake was spotted by walkers in the park close to the prison earlier this month.
RSPCA inspector Emily Buckett was called to collect the snake.
She said, “It must have been quite a shock for the walkers to spot an orange snake in the park! It’s difficult to know how he came to be there - he could be a lost pet or may have been abandoned by his owner - either way I’m fairly certain he isn’t an escaped inmate from the prison!”
Emily carefully contained the lively corn snake in a secure carrier, and took him to RSPCA Putney Animal Hospital, where he was checked over. Luckily, he appeared to be in good health.
Emily added: “The snake is most likely to be an escaped pet, so we’ll take good care of him whilst we wait 14 days for an owner to come forward. If nobody comes forward by then, we can find him a loving new home.”

Many of the snakes the RSPCA’s officers are called to collect are thought to be escaped pets.
The charity recommends reptile owners invest in an enclosure suitable for the particular species and that the enclosure is kept secure (and locked if necessary) when unattended. Reptiles, particularly snakes, can be extremely good escape artists and will take the opportunity of a gap in an enclosure door, or a loose-fitting lid.
