Woman attacked near railway line on Bentworth Road

A CCTV image has been released of a man police wish to speak to in connection with a rape that took place in White City near Hammersmith Hospital.

A woman was attacked a some point before 4.38am on Sunday, 13 October on a footbridge over a railway line close to Bentworth Road.

The victim, who is in her mid-twenties, said that she had met her attacker outside of a bar and walked back to her home address. He then asked her to walk him to a nearby bus stop and during this time physically assaulted and raped her.

When a member of the public walked by, the victim managed to flee the scene and stopped the driver of a passing car, who called police.

As well as being sexually assaulted, the woman also suffered facial injuries which she was treated for in hospital.

Officers investigating the case have identified a man from CCTV who they are keen to identify.

Detective Constable James Bulpin, from the Met’s Central West safeguarding team, said, “We are appealing for anyone who may know this man or who saw someone matching his description in the area on 13 October to come forward with any information they have.

“We also believe there was a male witness to this attack who ran away from the scene and the details he holds could be vital to our investigation.

“Similarly, if you saw or heard anything that seemed out of the ordinary, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Any piece of information, no matter how small, could help us.

“This was a horrific sexual assault and we are committed to finding out who is responsible while doing all we can to support the victim in this case.”

The man is believed to have had dark hair which was shaved at the sides and a bun on top. At the time of the offence, he was wearing a denim jacket with a white sleeveless top underneath.
