Delay in Addressing Night Flight Noise Challenged

West London Friends of the Earth has responded to the government consultation on night noise. 

The proposal is to continue with the current limits on the number of night flights and their aggregated noise.

Nic Ferriday, spokesperson for West London Friends of the Earth, said: “The government has once again failed to address the problem of night flights at Heathrow.  We already know the annoyance and distress night noise causes to people under the flight path.  But since the last review of night noise, evidence has been published which shows there are health impacts as well.”

The government proposes to leave the night limits unchanged and to review them in 2017, after the dust from the Airports Commission has settled. Nic commented: “The Airports Commission is not an authority on noise and has nothing to add to what is already known about night noise.  Citing the Commission is just an excuse to delay action.  Once again, the government is pandering to the aviation industry instead of helping the residents of West London.”
