With 15.6 million visitors visiting the two centres in November and December
Westfield London in Shepherd's Bush and its East London sister site in Stratford had a record breaking festive season, with the two centres between them welcoming 15.6 million visitors from the start of November till the end of December.
The figure, 11% higher than last year, wasn't the only one to break records.
The centres also had the busiest Black Friday weekend on record, and recorded a 7% uplift in visitors – close to 910,000 across the weekend.
On the final 'Super Weekend' before Christmas, 1.2 million shoppers crammed into the Westfields – their best-ever for that time period.
Boxing Day footfall also broke records – it was up 9% year on year as more than 350,000 visitors went to the sales.
Here in W12, Boxing Day was the busiest one in the history of Westfield London, apart from its 2008 opening day.
Myf Ryan, Westfield’s european chief marketing officer, said some shops, including Boots and Habitat reported a jump in sales, 'with some having to undertake emergency restocking'.
2018 a momentous year for Westfield London, as it opened its new extension, making it the biggest centre in Europe and celebrating its tenth anniversary.
During the year, it was also part of a takeover of the Westfield group French retail giant Unibail-Rodamco.
The takeover created a £54billion retail giant with 102 shopping centres in 13 countries, including London, Paris, Stockholm, New York and Los Angeles.
