No talent required for singalong in aid of Duchenne UK
Local choirs SingWest are inviting people to Come and Sing! at St Peter's Church in Black Lion Lane on Saturday, 8 June, from 6pm - 7.30pm
They are raising money to help the fight against Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, or DMD, which is a muscle wasting diseasealmost always affecting boys and the most common genetic killer of children worldwide.
Duchenne UK are working to accelerate treatments and find a cure.
Those joining the singalong will be learning the Simple Minds classic Don’t You Forget About Me which also featured in the classic teen film The Breakfast Club.
SingWest are two informal choirs based in Hammersmith and Barnes who meet weekly, singing contemporary, gospel and choral music. Both choirs are open, inclusive and relaxed.
They say: "None of us are especially talented vocalists, some of us are genuinely awful. But we've found the life-affirming and restorative power of music is an amazing antidote to the stress and routine of everyday life and we think everyone should experience it."
"There is no pressure, you will not required to sing a solo, it's easy to hide at the back and laugh - you will never feel self-conscious or embarrassed."
Everyone is welcome on Saturday and absolutely no singing experience or talent is required!
Tickets cost £15. Children can join in for free.
And if you are inspired to join the choir, Singwest rehearse every Monday evening during term time from 7.30 pm for about an hour and a half in St Peter’s Church.
