Shops complain of slow trading
Weekend snow slowed down trade on King Street this weekend. Several small shops were closed and even though the supermarkets and chain stores remained open, King Street was virtually empty.
There were few cars and virtually no buses. Picadilly and central lines operated relatively good services but few people were at any of the stations or on the street.
The restaurants and shops that were open complained of slow trade and blamed the weather. With 30% of Hammersmith's population coming from outside the borough, this is usually a slow period when people leave the city to return home for Christmas. However trade was even slower as snow kept people indoors.
A few lone snowmen outside some houses and a few children throwing snowballs at each other on Lyric Square were the only cheerful sights.
