Work unlikely to be complete until autumn 2010
Work to redevelop Shepherd's Bush Green has been delayed.
The project was originally due to begin in late spring but H&F have now announced that the plans will only come before the Council's planning committee in July. If they are approved, work will begin before the end of the year and will take around nine months to complete.
The regeneration work is starting later than expected because of necessary adjustments to the original plans. The revised version now excludes the eastern corner of the Green - the location of the Ginglik nightclub which had been threatened with closure.
"We've been removed from their development plans for the time being but have yet to negotiate for a new lease and agree on who should pay for what work. Certainly we're not going anywhere for a while at least," said Ginglik's Tammi Willis.
The planning application for the new-look Green includes a new building with a café, public toilets and baby changing facilities, a toddlers’ play area and a playground for children aged five to 12.
The £3 million scheme will also include a multi-use games court and a plaza, focused around the war memorial, which has Grade II listed building status. As well as the new buildings, the common will be landscaped to create grassy mounded areas and open spaces.
At a public consultation in the West 12 shopping centre last summer, 73 percent of residents said they thought the suggestions for the scheme were 'good' or 'very good'.
Cabinet member for residents’ services, Councillor Paul Bristow, says the redeveloped Green will be a real bonus to the area: “This project will benefit the whole of the community, breathing new life into a green space that needs regenerating,” he said.
The Council say that if all goes smoothly, the new-look Green should be open to residents by autumn 2010.
