Kicking off 11 days of shows from some of our top stand-up comics
Shepherd's Bush's second Comedy Festival begins today, Thursday 19 July at the Bush Theatre in Uxbridge Road.
The festival will kick off tonight at 7.30pm with a show from Maisie Adam, who decided to try stand-up comedy 18 months ago and within a year, won the biggest stand-up comedy newcomer competition, opened for major comedians, and claimed a Best New Comedy nomination at Brighton Fringe.
The laugh fest will then run through till 29 July, featuring a mix of new names and returning faces for two weeks of storytelling, laughter, comedy and poetry.
This year’s line-up of comedians includes Jen Brister, James Acaster, Helen Bauer, Jessie Cave, Mark Watson, Adam Riches, Flo and Joan and Glittery Clittery.
Returning to the Bush after last year's very successul inaurgural festival are Nina Conti, pictured above and Tim Key.
The line-up has also been joined by H&F's own John Kearns, pictured below, who went to the London Oratory School in Fulham. He is the only comedian to date to have been the winner of both the Best Show and Best Newcomer prize at the Edinburgh comedy Festival.
The festival also features a free educational programme for students from Phoenix Academy in stand up and sketch writing, with performances at Westfield London.
The comedy festival is organised by Hammersmith & Fulham Council, in partnership with the Bush Theatre and PBJ Management and this year has expanded from four days last year to 11 in 2018.
"After the success of last year’s event we’ve made the festival even bigger," said Cllr Andrew Jones, H&F Cabinet Member for the Economy and the Arts. "It’s a great chance to catch some of the top names on the comedy circuit before they head up to the Edinburgh festival so come down and enjoy the comedy."
You can see the full line-up and book tickets for the festival on the Bush Theatre's website.
