Ride London Cycling Event Closes Local Roads And Bridges

Advance warning of major closures this weekend

Residents are reminded that the Prudential Ride London cycle race this weekend will affect parking and travel in many parts of the borough.

Thousands of cyclists, both amateur and professional, are expected to take part in a series of bike contests on Sunday 29 July.

The all-day event is based largely on the London 2012 Olympic cycling competition and will have a major effect on travel throughout south west London, including Wandsworth and Putney.

To accommodate the riders, the following local roads will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 7.30am on the day. They are expected to reopen at around 7.30pm, although this timing is subject to change.

Putney High Street SW15
Putney Bridge SW15 (southbound)

Albert, Battersea, Chelsea, Chiswick and Kingston Bridges will all be closed for most of the day while Wandsworth Bridge will be closed with access for residents only from 7am to around 7.30pm. Only northbound traffic will be able to use Putney Bridge and the only access onto the bridge will be from the Lower Richmond Road.

The A3 will be open, although the exit slip roads at Esher Common, Coombe Lane and Tibbet’s Corner will be closed.

Crowds of spectators are expected to line the route and Putney High Street’s shops, bars, restaurants, pubs and cafes will be open for business on the day.

The event will see riders setting off from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London heading for the Surrey Hills before returning to central London and a finishing line in The Mall.
