Thames Water Holds New Drop-in Sessions over Storm Relief Sewer
Seeking further feedback on selection of five preferred sites
Thames Water is holding a new series of public drop-in sessions in January and February after selecting five preferred sites to construct a new storm relief sewer.
The sites are at:
• Cremorne Wharf Depot, Lots Road, Chelsea
• Land adjacent to Talgarth Road and Trevanion Road, Hammersmith
• Maclise Road car park and woodland adjacent to Kensington Olympia Station
• Holland Villas Road at its junction with Lower Addison Gardens
• The car park at Tesco Superstore, Shepherd’s Bush Road.
Thames Water says it is inviting residents in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham to give their views on the updated plans to protect properties from the misery of sewer flooding.
The second phase of consultation on the Counters Creek storm relief sewer will run from Tuesday, January 12 to Tuesday, April 5.
During this time the water company will provide more detail than was available during phase one, and seek further feedback, having already made a number of changes to the initial plans after listening to residents, on five proposed construction sites.
It says the first phase of the consultation and subsequent public engagement sessions saw hundreds of residents, business owners and other interested parties provide opinions on 16 potential sites following an initial assessment of 250 locations.

In addition, information and feedback forms will also be available on the company’s Counter's Creek site from January 12, by emailing consultations@thameswater.co.uk or by calling 0800 3169800 and quoting reference BB968577.
Thames Water says the views of residents, together with the company’s responses, will form a report which will be submitted alongside planning applications in mid-2016. Further consultations will then be held by local planning authorities.
The Counters Creek sewer flooding alleviation project involves the construction of a new storm relief sewer to safeguard 1,700 homes and businesses that have flooded in recent years when heavy rain overwhelmed drains and sewers, forcing sewage to back-up in the pipes and overspill out of toilets and sinks.
Counters Creek project director Martin Bennett says: " The new storm relief sewer is vital to protect those properties most at risk. Anyone who’s had sewage flood their property will tell you it’s a truly horrible experience and when it’s happened once you fear it will happen again every time there’s heavy rain.
" We really value feedback from people in the area on this important project and encourage them to come and see us or send in their comments. This consultation will help us further understand what matters most to residents and what we can do keep disruption to a minimum."
