Hammersmith and Fulham Marks Remembrance Day on Sunday

With Two Parades to War Memorials in Fulham and Shepherd's Bush

Ceremonies will be held in our borough this Sunday, 12 November to remember the sacrifices made by those who fought in the two world wars and every conflict since.

A two minute silence will be held at 11am, after separate parades in the north and south of the borough to mark Remembrance Sunday. The silence marks the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, during World War One, when the guns of Europe fell silent.

"It’s hard to imagine what our armed forces have to face to keep our country safe," says H&F Mayor, Cllr Michael Cartwright.

"We owe a massive debt of gratitude to those who fought in past wars, in modern conflicts abroad and those who stand against the terror threat in our own city."

Shepherd's Bush War Memorial

The procession will begin at Sulgrave Road, off Shepherds Bush Road, at 10.15am before the service at the war memorial on Shepherds Bush Green. Both will be attended by H&F Mayor, Cllr Michael Cartwright.

The service will be conducted by Father Richard Nesbitt of Our Lady of Fatima church and Reverend Cameron Collington of St Simon’s Church.

After the service, there will be a march past in Shepherds Bush Road where the Mayor will take the salute before the parade is dismissed in Westwick Gardens.

Fulham War Memorial

The procession will begin at Parsons Green at 10.20am and march down New Kings Road to the Fulham War Memorial in Vicarage Garden. The service will be led by Reverend Canon Joseph Hawes of All Saints church. It will be followed by a march across Fulham High Street to Fulham House, where the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Mercy Umeh will take the salute before the parade is dismissed.

Residents are welcome to take part in just the services by going to either Shepherd's Bush Green or Vicarage Gardens before 11am when the services will begin with a minute’s silence.
