Second Gym Set to Move into Fulham Island

Orangetheory Fitness applies to over site on Vanston Place next to PureGym

Fulham Island looks set to become Fulham's fitness central, with 'cult studio' Orangetheory Fitness applying to move into 24 - 32 Vanston Place, he premises which have stood empty since the departure of Del Aziz.

The site of course is adjacent to the former M&S food store which is now home to busy rival PureGym

Orangetheory Fitmess, which already has a studio in Garratt Lane in Wandsworth is part of an international chain at over 1,000 locations worldwide.

It promises science backed personal trainer led fitness classes which offer the ultimate one hour total body workout which produces results. The chain adds: " It’s Tough, It’s Fun, It’s Addicting."

The planning application, currently being considered by the council, can be seen in full here.

It is for:

Change of use of the ground floor at 24-32 Vanston Place from Use Class A3 (Restaurants and cafes) into a mixed Use Class A3 (Restaurants and cafes) and D2 (assembly and leisure); alterations to the front elevation, and installation of new plant within existing roof top plant area. | 24 - 32 Vanston Place London SW6 1AX

A planning statement acknowledges the change of use, saying: "The previous use of the unit was A3 Use Class however the previous occupier did not extend their lease and the use has not been in operation since August 2017.

"The landlords have marketed the unit for other occupiers since January 2018, however given the current market conditions the only offer to have come forward was from the fitness studio operator Orangetheory Fitness. Therefore, to avoid the unit remaining vacant in the long term, we are submitting the application to change the use of the Unit to D2 in order to enable Orangetheory Fitness to occupy the entirety of the 24-32 Vanston Place.

"We are seeking a flexible use through the retention of the A3 use to ensure the Unit can be re-occupied by other A3 occupiers should market conditions change in the next ten years."

If permission is granted, the new gym will be the fifth in the area, alongside The Gym in North End Road, the David Lloyd Club on Fulham Broadway and Virgin Active at Fulham Pools.

However, the planning statement says: "The proposed boutique fitness studio concept is also considered to complement the existing health and well-being provisions within the Fulham Town Centre. The Centre is currently served by a high-end gym in the form of David Lloyds within Fulham Broadway, as well as the low-cost gym provider, Pure Gym at 25 Jerdan Place.

"The addition of a fitness studio is not considered to be directly comparable to either of the existing services. "
