Local Luminaries Feature on New Year Honours List


MBEs for River Cafe Founders

A number of people living or working in Hammersmith and Fulham are included in the newly published New Year Honours List.

In Hammersmith, the two co-founders of the famous River Cafe restaurant, Mrs Clemency Anne Rose Gray and Ruth, Lady Rogers of Riverside, were both awarded an MBE.

Also in W6, Charles David Ogilvy Barrie, lately Director of independent charity The Art Fund, received a CBE for services to the Visual Arts.

Also awarded a CBE is Ms Helen FRASER of London W14, from who has just retired after 13 years as Managing Director of Penguin UK, for services to the Publishing Industry.

Mrs Maya Donelan, who is well known across SW6 for her work as Honorary Secretary of the Fulham Society, has been awarded an MBE, of Member of the British Empire, for services to the community in Hammersmith and Fulham.

Also awarded an MBE is Antony Romer Beevor, for voluntary service to the Fairbridge youth organisation, which supports children from disadvantaged areas and which receives the profits from Fulham Palace Garden Centre.

A CBE goes to Anthony Simonds-Gooding, Chairman of D&AD, an educational charity that represents the global creative, design and advertising communities, for services to
the Creative Industries.

And in Shepherd's Bush, Mrs Oriana Clare Tickell, who is Chief Executive of Action for Children, was made a Dames Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her services to young people.
