Well known local business will still retain store in Chiswick
Top Hat's loyalty to Chiswick is unparalleled, as the store is one of the longest-running businesses in W4.
But the company is no stick in the mud and is always ready to move with the times, hence its decision to expand to Hammersmith.
Top Hat is staying in Devonshire Road but the company has opened another branch just down the road in King St.
Top Hat moved from Chiswick High Road to Devonshire Road in 2007, after 39 years.
"We took over an old established dry cleaners and with hard work have increased the turn over every year since. That meant that five years ago we decided to use an offsite laundry to deal with at the time a relatively small amount of shirts, bed linen and duvets because we needed the space for Dry Cleaning. As we have increased business it reached a point that we need to bring the laundry closer to hand and under closer control, easier said than done!" says Mike Moran.
After a long search they have found the perfect site at 289 King Street Hammersmith. Situated just by Ravenscourt Park the location is close enough to Devonshire Road to enable quick multi trips between the two shops to offer faster service (they'll be able to offer same day duvet service for example, in by 9am back by 4pm).
Special delivery to the King St store
"Staffing is always important and we are lucky to able to turn to another member of the Moran family in cousin Steve- he has 30 plus years of experience in the laundry trade- and add that to the large investment in the latest laundry equipment. We look forward to continuing to grow," says Mike.
Top Hat will be moving forward offering “Wet Cleaning”, which is an eco friendly way to “Dry Clean” clothes. Mike Moran looked at this 20 years ago and it was not ready then, but now the precise controls on Meile Washing machine and Tumble dryer combined with the new soaps and additives mean they will be able to offer a new level of cleanliness to customers.
"We have a team with the rare knowledge in the world of cleaning, we all work to high standards, we all try our best at all times, we have the rock that is our Billy at Devonshire Road to look after all the dry cleaning and Steve at Kings Street to look after the Laundry," says Mike.
And there is also Mike to encourage all members of the Top Hat family, from the newest Saturday person to the longest employed.
