Camelot says ticket bought in borough expired at midnight on Thursday

Somewhere in Hammersmith and Fulham is a resident who just missed out on winning one million pounds.

Despite a hunt for the missing millionaire, which included the the participation of local sailing club London Corinthians, Camelot UK Lotteries Limited, operator of The National Lottery, has today announced that the £1,000,000 Millionaire Raffle prize from the special Lotto Medal Draw on 27 August 2016 has remained unclaimed more than 180 days after the draw took place.

The one-off Lotto draw was held to thank National Lottery players for the support they have given Team GB through playing the lottery.

The Lotto ticket was bought in Hammersmith & Fulham and the deadline for the ticket-holder to claim their prize was midnight on Thursday 23 February 2017.

As the deadline has now passed the money, plus the interest it earned, has now gone to help National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.

The National Lottery says it changes lives of individuals as well as communities – players raise on average, over £30 million for National Lottery-funded projects every week.

Since 1994, environment, charity and voluntary sectors. The National Lottery has invested over £5 billion in grassroots sport to date, supporting more than 150 different sports and creating opportunities for everyone to get fit.

These have inlcuded nearly 1,100 life-changing projects in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham made possible by The National Lottery, including:

• London Corinthian Sailing Club. National Lottery funding of £9,885 has allowed the club to buy new dinghies to improve training and increase opportunities
• London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham. £264,717 of National Lottery funding has allowed the redevelopment of sports facilities and the building of a new single story pavilion at Fulham's Hurlingham Park

Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor at The National Lottery said: "Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money.

"To avoid this unfortunate situation happening again, I would urge all National Lottery players to check their tickets on a regular basis.

"We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it’s a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner – the nation. This money, and all the interest earned over the 180 days, will now go to benefit projects all over the UK funded by The National Lottery."

Last Saturday, members of London Corinthians Sailing Club joined in the hunt by cruising up and down the Thames with the winning number on their sails and visiting local pubs to inform people about the missing ticket.

With all National Lottery draws, players have 180 days from the day of the draw to claim their prize if they have the winning ticket.
