Kettle + Crust Named Best Cafe in Hammersmith

"Social impact business" within St Paul's Centre wins annual competition

Kettle + Crust, the cafe within St Paul's Centre, part of St Paul's Church, has been voted the Best Cafe in Hammersmith.

The recently reopened cafe, which is described as a Social Impact Business, supporting unemployed people into employment won the most votes in HammersmithLondon's annual culinary competition, I Love Lunch 2015.

The cafe is open in the centre's atrium Monday to Friday from 8.30am till 4.30pm and says: " We proudly serve ethically sourced Peros coffee and fair-trade products as well as creating fresh food on site every day, using locally sourced produce wherever possible."

Kettle + Crust, in conjunction with the Resco Programme, also provides around 30 work experience and training opportunities each year for people want to develop a career in the catering and hospitality industry.

The programme offers barista training, Food Hygiene level 2, COSHH training, customer service training, product training from suppliers and experience as a chef, kitchen porter and front of house. Alongside this industry work experience, participants are given tailored one-to-one support as well as workshops in CV writing, interview skills and a number of other work-readiness opportunities.

Applications are now being accepted for the next Cafe programme which begins on June 5, and you can find out more here.

The cafe is also looking for a Front of House Manager - find out more about this job here.

The Kettle + Crust Kettle and Crust beat reigning champions La Petite Bretagne to win the title of Best Café in HammersmithLondon's competition, now in its fourth year. The BID. or Bursiness Improvement District, which aims to boost businesses and the environment in Hammersmith's town centre, runs the competition for the best lunchtime eateries in Hammersmith by asking worker, residents and visitors to vote in three categories: Best Pub, Best Café and Best Restaurant.

With more than 1,600 votes cast, HammersmithLondon says this was the most successful year of the competition. As well as Kettle + Crust's win as Best Cafe, the Hammersmith Ram remains unbeaten in the pub competition despite strong opposition this year from King Street rivals The Swan and Hammersmith newbies the Draft House.

Once again the battle between Wagamama and Villagio went down to the wire, but the Italian restaurant was victorious, claiming its third title.

All three winners will be presented with trophies and certificates by the Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham and as winners, all three will be nominated for the West London Business Awards, to be held later this year.
