Hammersmith and Fulham Has Over 11,000 New Voters

Council says electoral registration team have been busy updating database

H&F Council's electoral registration team says that in the five weeks after the 2017 General Election was called, 11,189 extra people across the borough have registered to vote.

Registrations closed for the poll at midnight on Monday 22 May, and everyone registered by that stage will be able to vote.

Since then, the council says staff have been hard at work verifying requests to be added to the register, and updating the secure voter database.

That total is made of people who have moved into the borough, become eligible to vote once reaching 18 or due to another change in status, or people who had simply not been registered before.

"Our electoral services team have been incredibly busy, encouraging residents to register to vote and ensuring the register is up to date," said Kim Dero, Interim chief executive of Hammersmith & Fulham Council, who is also returning officer for the count.

"But this is just one part of the council's involvement in the administration of democracy, as we will be running polling stations open all day on 8 June, as well as counting ballot papers through the night."

H&F Council is responsible for two General Election counts: those in Hammersmith, and in Chelsea & Fulham.

Additionally, there will be council by-elections on the same day in Sands End ward, and Avonmore & Brook Green.

The council also says on election day, it will be its staff running polling stations throughout the borough. And on election night, it will also be council staff counting all votes from the whole of those two constituencies.
