Passengers Led Through Tube Tunnel Outside Shepherd's Bush

TfL says evacuation of Central Line train was 'safe and routine'

Up to 1,000 Central Line passengers were forced to walk through tube tunnels outside Shepherd's Bush Station after a train was evacuated on Tuesday evening.

Passengers were led along the tracks for more than five minutes after a track fault caused the train to get stuck just outside the station at the height of last night's rush hour around 6pm.

Transport for London described the evacuation as " "safe and routine" and passengers thanked rail crews for their help.

Jasmin Barras, one of the evacuated passengers, said TfL staff were "fantastic" and added: "It only took five minutes to walk once we could get off the train.

"But I was in the very end carriage so first to get off - it would have been considerably longer for people further down the train."

Another passenger, Helen Pratt said on Twitter: "Well, that was fun on the Central Line in the dark. Thanks TfL for sending friendly staff to lead us into the light."

The fault led to the line being closed between Marble Arch and White City, with severe delays on the rest of the Central Line during Tuesday evening. Today it is running with only minor delays.
