Second Phase of King's Road Gas Mains Replacement Starts on April 28
Causing further closures and bus diversions during works till end of September
National Grid has written to residents living in the eastern end of Fulham to say that the second phase of its work replacing gas mains on King's Road begins on April 28.
This means there will be further lane closures and diversions during this phase, which is scheduled to last till the end of September.
The letter, from Engineering Manager Stuart Donaldson says: " We are on schedule and the new pipe is inserted inside the first of our three gas mains from Stanley Bridge (railway bride to the west of Lots Road) and Edith Grove. This means westbound traffic will need to go up Gunter Grove, along Fulham Road and down Harwood Road to re-join King's Road. There will be no access to King's Road along Lots Road from Cremorne Road.
"The diversion that was put in place in February, qhich requires westbound traffic to go left down Edith Grove and along Cremorne Road will also remain in place for the second phase of our work."
The letter says changes to bus routes and stops remain the same as in the previous phase and are summarised here:
All existing eastbound bus stops will be maintained.
The westbound stop outside World's End Health Centre will not be in use.
Routes 22 and N22 will take the diversion up Gunter Grove, along Fulham Road and down Harwood Road. The buses will use the existing stops on Fulham Road. The bus stop on Harwood Road just south of Fulham Road will be suspended to facilitate the diversion route. They will also stop at the bus stop on Gunter Grove at the end of Edith Terrace.
Routes 11 and N11 will also take the diversion up Gunter Grove and along Fulham Road, using existing stops to Fulham Broadway.
C3 northbound to Earls Court will continue on its usual route and stops. C3 southbound to Clapham Junction will be diverted along Edith Road, Cremorne Road and Lots Road to Chelsea Harbour Avenue. It will miss the stop on Lots Road at the end of Burnaby Avenue and instead use a temporary stop opposite Chelsea Academy.
National Grid will also continue working on the footpaths on Stanley Bridge, but will make sure there is always a clearly signed safe route for pedestrians.
The letter concludes: " The programme will reduce the amount of unplanned work on our gas network and is essential to provide safe and reliable energy to the people in our communities running businesses, schools and homes.
" We are listening to local businesses and residents in developing the traffic management plan. We are doing everything possible to reduce the impact while being mindful of the different needs of residents, businesses and motorists. I would like to thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation."
