Bells at churches around the country, including All Saints Fulham, St Peter’s in Hammersmith and St Simon’s in Shepherd’s Bush, have tolled at midday on Friday, 9 September to mark the passing of The Queen.

Churches across the borough have also opened their doors for quiet contemplation, the lighting of candles and signing of condolence books.

Special services will be held on Sunday and St Paul’s in Hammersmith is also inviting local people to place flowers and candles in jars in the circle in front of the church building.

A statement from St Paul’s says: “In light of the sad news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September, we will be making space at St Paul’s for us to remember her as a community.”

Many members of the community, meanwhile have been taking to Twitter to pay tribute to The Queen and thank her for her many years of service.

The tributes have been led by our two local MPs. Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter tweeted @hammersmithandy: “ A time of great sadness for our country and Her Majesty's family. We reflect on and give thanks for her long lifetime of service and unfaltering leadership. May she rest in peace.”

As a mark of respect to The Queen, this weekend’s Premier League football fixtures have been postponed, including a much anticipated local match between Fulham FC and Chelsea FC.

Announcing the postponement, Fulham Football Club said @FulhamFC, “Fulham FC is deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“ Our thoughts are with the entire Royal Family as the nation mourns this huge loss.
