Over 15,000 people flocked to events in Lyric Square in June and July
HammersmithLondon, the organiser of our annual Summer Festival in Lyric Square, has thanked everyone who toook part in this year's hugely popular event.
The festival gave us two months of open air theatre, exercise sessions and communal picnics along with sports, films and opera on the square's giant screen.
Now in its 11th year, the Festival, organised and run by HammersmithLondon BID, transforms the space outside the Lyric Hammersmith theatre into a fun community hub each summer.
The 2018 record-breaking heatwave saw huge crowds enjoy the free entertainment this year, with well over 15,000 people coming from across Hammersmith and surrounding areas to enjoy the fun in the sun.
Highlights included two screenings of live Royal Opera House productions – La Bohème and Don Giovanni – with each performance drawing capacity crowds of well over 500.
Lyric Fest saw HammersmithLondon BID and Lyric Hammersmith join forces to deliver a three-day event of music, theatre, dance and poetry.
The Wimbledon fortnight is always hugely popular and this year was no exception with thousands following he tennis tournament live on the Big Screen.
There were also two sing-along screenings of The Greatest Showman, with the second bringing the Festival to a fitting finale as people of all ages belted out their favourite tunes from the film.
Other classes and events included: DW Fitness First in the Square, Lumi Al Fresco yoga, Dr Bike, Picnic in the Square and regular Guided Walks around Hammersmith.
Patricia Bench, Director of HammersmithLondon BID, said: "The HammersmithLondon Festival continues to go from strength to strength. This year was another wonderful two months of free events, screenings and classes enjoyed by thousands of people.
"We love the fact that we can offer this entertainment to local Hammersmith residents and workers, as well as those who travel from far and wide to take advantage of our fabulous setting on Lyric Square. We work hard to ensure there is a wide range of things on offer so people of all ages can enjoy the Festival.
"A huge thank you goes to our sponsors Coco di Mama and Specsavers, whose support is so crucial to the Festival, and also to the HammersmithLondon team who have worked so hard throughout the past two months. We’re already looking forward to next year!"
Following this year's festival the BID is asking local people to give their views on this year's events and suggestions for making next year's even better. You can take part by completing a short survey here.
