Hundreds of free or low cost activities on offer to children and their families
Summer in the City is back for 2019, with hundreds of free or low cost events for children, young people and their families throughout the holidays.
Events list on Hammersmith & Fulham Council's include sport, music lessons, arts and crafts, cooking skills, fashion and much more. And grown ups can also join the fun as youngsters can bring their parents and carers to many of the activities.
Some of these events are drop-in sessions, but others must be booked in advance, so visit the Summer in the City website for details of when, where and how to take part in all the activities.
There are activities to suit young people aged up to 19 years old and there are also those for Disabled people aged 25 and under.
Most of them are run by well-known youth provider Let Me Play, who are based in Blythe Road in West Kensington.
Here are just some of the varies events on offer:
1 August - kayaking
Try your hand at kayaking on the Thames in these fun sessions at the state-of-the-art Fulham Reach Boat Club. The free event at the Hammersmith club – near Riverside Studios – is open to ages 11 to 18. From 5-6.30pm.
2 August - basketball
Is basketball your favourite sport? Do you love to dribble up and down the court? If you’re aged 11 to 18, head down to the hoops in Ravenscourt Park in Hammersmith (Goldhawk Road entrance) to shoot some buckets. The free basketball camp runs from 2.45-4.45pm and is hosted by Way 2 Work.
August - summer-themed arts and crafts play session
Want to get messy? The entire family is invited down to Ray’s Playhouse in Stephendale Road, Fulham, for a morning stay and play session with summer-themed arts and crafts. Prepare to explore different senses with different textures and smells and have fun getting messy on a Monday. Entry is £3 per family. Runs from 9.30am to noon.
6 August - Westfield’s Puttshack
Fancy your aim on the greens? Then head down to the new putt-putt courses at Westfield’s Puttshack and try your luck. The session in White City runs from noon to 1pm and is free if you’re between the ages of 11 and 18.
8 August - free gym session
Enjoy a free session in the gym at the Phoenix Fitness Centre in White City. The free event is open to ages 11 to 18 and runs from 4 to 6pm. It’s an easy way to try out the equipment and break a sweat.
