Local Branches of Poundworld Set to Close This Weekend

32 jobs lost as budget stores in Fulham and Shepherd's Bush among 145 closures

Poundworld stores in Fulham's North End Road and the West12 Centre in Shepherd's Bush are set to close their doors over this weekend, between 20 and 22 July.

The closures, which have been expected with the stores' stock diminishing and Closing Down notices posted in the windows, mean the loss of 32 local jobs - 13 in Fulham and 19 in Shepherd's Bush.

They are among 145 stores confirmed for closure across the country, with the total loss of almost 1,800 jobs.

Clare Boardman, of administrators, Deloitte said: "We would like to thank all the employees for their continued support and commitment during this difficult time. We are keeping staff appraised of developments as they happen."

The budget chain is the latest casualty in what is turning out to be a desperate year for the retail and hospitality industries, with a number of major chains being forced to close stores and restaurants across London and the country.

Last month, M&S announced it was closing its Simply Food store on Fulham Island this summer, after deciding not to renew its lease.

Nick Pucci, head of region for London at M&S said: "The decision not to renew our leases and therefore close our small food stores in Ruislip High Street and Fulham Island was a difficult one to make.

"We've got brilliant teams at both stores, with 40 colleagues at Fulham Island and 35 at Ruislip, and they will all move to nearby M&S stores."

These stores are likely to include M&S in Kings Road in Chelsea and the Earls Court Simply Food.

In our borough, closures this year have included Warren Evans and Maplin's, though there was relief for staff at department store House of Fraser in Westfield in Shepherd's Bush last week when it was not include among a list of 31 stores due to shut their doors early next year, including its flagship store in Oxford Street.
