Range of events throughout October for over 60s
A wide range of events is taking place this October to celebrate Hammersmith and Fulham's older residents, starting on Saturday October 4, when Bond Girl Honor Blackman, aka Pussy Galore, tops the bill with an afternoon of chat from 2pm at Kensington Close Hotel.
Other highlights include a guided walk of Bishop’s Park and Fulham Palace and a coach trip to Bodiam Castle in East Sussex. There are also listings for regular events, groups and services in Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F).
Cllr Vivienne Lukey, H&F's cabinet member for health and adult social care, says: " This is a fantastic festival and is a great way for older people to get involved more in their local communities and to try something new and interesting. The activities on offer for Silver Sunday are incredibly varied and show that age is no barrier to enjoying yourself.
"So I hope everyone finds an event that interests them will come and join us!"
Centred on the first Sunday of October, Silver Sunday is a national celebration of older people and their contribution to communities.
Through a variety of free and low-cost activities, the festival is offering people over 60 a chance to keep active in body and spirit, try new things, meet their neighbours and have a good time.
The celebrations will also highlight the many community groups and council services that are on offer to support older residents throughout the year.
Cllr Lukey adds: “Silver Sunday is the perfect time to highlight the great work being done by local organisations and residents – these are people we are proud of and want to thank for all they do in the community."
The council has worked with local groups and organisations to create a guide called Silver to gather together all the exciting details. Silver will be available in H&F libraries and Hammersmith Town Hall, and can also be downloaded from the council's website.
