A man who used an internet cafe in King Street to look at child pornography and to try and arrange meetings with children in the Philippines has been sent to jail for four years.

Stephen Wells, 43, of Madrid Road in Barnes was arrested in Internet & Call Point in Hammersmith, after he was seen using a computer to view indecent images of children.

Wells had been banned from using a computer with internet access and therefore had already breached a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

He was also found to have been using a chat room and web cam to speak to someone in the Philippines to arrange to be shown live images and set up meetings with children.

When police searched his flat they found a mobile phone which also contained "sickening" pictures of children.

Wells was jailed at Southwark Crown Court on January 20 and given an extended sentence of 10 years (for sexual offences), with a custodial sentence of four years – three and a half for arranging/facilitating the commission of a child sex offence and six months for breaching the sex order, to run concurrently.

Detective Constable Phil Cotter from the Violent Crime Unit based at Hammersmith Police Station said: "We are extremely pleased with the conviction as Stephen Wells was a serious risk to the public.

" Wells' conviction will hopefully reassure the public and will send a clear and unequivocal message to other perpetrators of such offences that this type of deviant behaviour will not be tolerated on Hammersmith & Fulham Borough."
