H&F Primary Pupils Beat National Average in English and Maths

Grades make borough Inner London's third highest achiever

Results of the SATs, new key stage 2 national curriculum tests in English and maths for seven to 11-year-olds, brought in by the government this summer, showed pupils have achieved well compared to other London boroughs and national averages.

More than 60% of pupils in the age group achieved as expected in reading, writing and maths – seven per cent above the national average.

Their success mean H&F is the third highest achieving borough in inner London and 11th nationally.

Eight per cent of pupils exceeded expectations, ranking H&F fourth in inner London and 10th nationally.

Looking at the subjects separately, 73% of youngsters achieved their expected performance in reading, compared to 66% nationally; 76% in writing, compared to 74% nationally; and 79% in maths, compared with 70% nationally.

The percentage of children achieving above expected results in each subject were also above the national average.

H&F pupils were five per cent above the national average in reading at 24 per cent; 18 per cent in writing, compared to a national average of 15 per cent; and 19 per cent in maths, two per cent above the national average.

"Congratulations to everyone who has received their results," says Cllr Sue Macmillan, H&F Cabinet Member for Children and Young People.

"We know pupils and teachers really work well together, helping children reach their potential across all subjects. These results are a good reflection of the excellent results they achieve in English and maths.

"This is why we are determined to protect funding to H&F's schools, as it is making a huge and positive difference."
