London Oratory Has H&F's Second Best GCSE Results

But there is disappointment for some other schools in Fulham

School pupils in Hammersmith & Fulham achieved the third best GCSE results in inner London in 2014, with Fulham's London Oratory among the borough's top performers.

The Seagrave Road secondary had an impressive 86% of students who passed five or more GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English and maths.

It was second only to Sacred Heart High School in Hammersmith, which had a top pass rate of 92%.

London Oratory's results however, were down 1% on 2013 while some other schools in Fulham had more disappointing results.

Fulham College Boys' School had the largest fall with just 41% of students 86% of students passing five or more GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English and maths - down from 59% the previous year.

At Fulham Cross Girls' School and Language College the percentage was down a smaller 5% from 70% in 2013 to 65% and at the normally high achieving Lady Margaret, it fell from 81% to 75%.

At Al Muntada Islamic School, 53% of students who passed five or more GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English and maths, 2% below the result in 2013.

And at Hurlingham and Chelsea School, the pass rate remained the same at 42%. This school has has a troubled history in previous years but is making a new start this year, having become an academy and under a new executive principal, Ben Parnell.

Across the borough, the llatest figures released this week by the Department for Education show 66% of H&F students passed five or more GCSEs at Grade A* to C including English and maths.

The results place the borough well above the national average of 53% and higher than the inner London average of 60%, being out-performed only by neighbouring boroughs, Kensington and Chelsea (74%) and Westminster (68%).

"These results cement the borough's schools among the top performers in London and rank us fourteenth nationally. It makes me immensely proud of the great work being performed across all of our schools by dedicated teachers and diligent students," says Sue Macmillan, H&F Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Education.
