A week after Hammersmith & Fulham A Level results proved to be high above the national average, our local schools are celebrating again - this time over a set of record breaking GCSE grades.

In Fulham, the boys at London Oratory School were top of the class, with an amazing pass rate of 96% of students achieving A*-C grades including English and maths, and almost half - 47.33% to be exact - achieving A* and A grades.

Over at Lady Margaret School, head Sally Whyte said she was "delighted" with the results, which showed 92% of students achieving grades of A* - C, and the same percentage as the Oratory - 47.33% - winning A* and A grades.

Fulham Cross School recorded a pass rate of 73% at A*-C with maths and English, while 35.4% achieved A* and A. Outstanding students included Elma Pasic from West Kensington and Aysha Rabbani from Shepherd's Bush, who both won eight A* grades.

At Hammersmith's Sacred Heart High School, headteacher Dr Christine Carpenter thanked all the teachers who had helped students achieve "excellent" results, with 94% achieving a grade A*-C in five or more subjects.

And at The Godolphin and Latymer, students and teachers were celebrating their best ever GCSE results. 100 girls took GCSE exams this year, with 93% of all grades either A* or A.

70% of the grades achieved were at A* and 20% of pupils achieved A* grades in all their subjects.

43% of girls achieved at least 9 A*s and 10 students did exceptionally well, gaining 11 A8 passes each - Olivia Ambler, Charlotte Cato, Natasha Doherty, Isobella Goonetillake, Emma Irving, Georgia Kandunias, Sophie Mathias, Clementine Metcalfe, Olivia Vickers and Zoe Walker.

In Shepherd's Bush, 75% of Burlington Danes students gained at least five A* to C grades including maths and English - an improvement of 8% on last year's performance. Winners at the Wood Lane school were led by super-student Bahgah Katamesh's, who achieved 12 A*s in her GCSE exams, in English literature and language, triple science, maths, Arabic, geography, history, French Latin and statistics.

Even more astonishing, 16 year-old Batgah also took two A Levels two years early and an AS Level exam one year early - and was awarded two A* grades in maths and Arabic and an A grade in biology at AS Level, which has no A* grade.

Principal Ms Sally Coates said: " Four consecutive years of significant improvement in our GCSE results is testament to the potential of our students and the dedication of our teachers.

" I am thrilled that three quarters of our students have graduated from secondary education with a solid academic foundation on which they can build. Our attention now shifts towards our forthcoming Year 11 and I remain convinced that Burlington Danes will continue to improve year-on-year."
