Hammersmith & Fulham Council has installed the 100 th bike hangar in the borough and plans to have five times that amount by 2027.

This would represent 3,000 new parking spots one for every resident currently waiting for a space. In recent months, dozens of new hangars have been installed across the borough, with many still having spaces available for residents.

When Victoria Gomez secured a spot in the new Trevanion Road hangar in W14, it changed more than just where she stored her bike – it kickstarted her journey to compete in a triathlon.

She had spent two years searching for her perfect bike, but when she finally found it, there was just one problem: where to keep it. Her kitchen in her compact West Kensington flat wasn't exactly ideal.

"We call it the shoe box," the 26-year-old sustainability consultant said laughing. "The bike lived in our kitchen space for a week before I got the hangar spot."

She added, “I wouldn't have bought the bike without knowing I could get a hangar spot. Having secure storage gives me independence and control over how I travel."

Victoria recently joined a local triathlon club, Ful-On Tri, and is now training for her first Half Ironman in Provence next May.

"My 90-year-old grannies will be there to support," she said. "My dad's saying he needs to train as well – to push them along the trek so they can all cheer me on."
