Be Prepared for Prudential RideLondon on Sunday 30 July

Roads will close throughout the day as thousands of cyclists race through borough

Thousands of people will once again line the streets on Sunday 30 July, as the annual Prudential RideLondon cycling event whizzes through Hammersmith and Fulham.

There will be two events coming through our borough - the RideLondon-Surrey 100, which last year included over 26,000 amateur riders, coming through during the morning, followed by the world's top professional riders taking prt in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic in the afternoon.

Residents are being strongly encouraged to plan ahead this to avoid traffic delays and a number of roads across the borough will be closed to traffic for much of the day.

The route for the two events, as in previous years, passes along the A4 in Hammersmith on its way out to Surrey and comes back via Putney Bridge and along New King's and King's Road in Fulham before finishing on The Mall.

In Hammersmith, Talgarth Road, the flyover and Great West Road will be closed from 5am, with amateur riders passing through around 6.30am and professionals around 1.30pm. Roads should be reopened by 3pm.

The A4 from Brompton Road will be affected from 0500 as will the whole of the Great West Road to Chiswick and the Hogarth roundabout. Chiswick Bridge will be closed for the duration of 0500 to 14.45 though it may reopen by 3 pm.

In Fulham, Putney Bridge, New Kings and Kings Roads are expected to be closed from 7.30am with amateur riders expected to pass through around 9.40am and professional riders around 5.55pm. Roads should to be reopened around 7.30pm.

You can see full details of these closures, plus access to surrounding roads and crossing points on the RideLondon website.

For those wishing to catch the cyclists in action, the amateur riders will pass through Hammersmith around 6.20am and the professionals between 1.45pm and 2pm.

The amateurs will return through Fulham around 9.40am and the professionals around 5.55pm.

Transport for London meanwhile is both residents and people attending the events to plan ahead, advising drivers to avoid areas near the event route. Buses will be on diversion or will finish early due to the road closures and while tube and rail will be the best way to get around on the day some stations around the routes are expected to be busier than usual, and some services including the local Overground line will be running special timetables on the day.
