L'Amorosa, Shikumen and Azou recognised for good value quality food
The newly published Michelin Guide 2016 reveals that Bib Gourmands have been awarded to two popular local restaurants - L'Amorosa, by Ravenscourt Park in King Street and Shikumen, within the Dorsett Hotel on Shepherd's Bush Green.
Meanwhile North African restaurant Azou, also in King Street, has retained its Bib Gourmand which it has held since 2012.
The Bib Gourmand recognises restaurants which combine good food with moderate prices and to qualify, they must serve three courses for under £28.
L'Amorosa, at 278 King Street was formerly the home of Lola and Simon until the owners sold it to top chef Andy Needham a year ago.
Since then, L'Amorosa, which means "The Loving" has gone from strength to strength, serving what local estate agent Horton and Garten described as "outstanding casual Italian cuisine and stylish wines at very affordable prices".
Its Set Lunch is particularly popular, serving three courses for £17.50 - which qualifies it for the Bib Gourmand. You can see a sample menu here.
When the awards were revealed, the restaurant tweeted @LamorosaLondon: "Big congrats to Andy and all the staff at @LamorosaLondon. We won a #BibGourmands. Thank you @MichelinGuideUK."
Shikumen, on the ground floor of the Dorsett Shepherd's Bush on the west side of Shepherd's Bush Green, has been acclaimed as one of the best Chinese restaurants in West London since its official opening on Chinese New Year in February.
It has won particular praise for its signature soup dumplings, the Shanghainese favourite, Xiao Long Bao.
"Xiao long bao are a test of the skill of a dumpling chef and here they were delicately pleated, surely at least 18 times, lusciously drenched in stock, superb," said the Evening Standard's Fay Maschler. This month one extra red dumpling is being added to each order to mark the visit of Chinese president Xi Jinping and his wife Madame Peng Liyuan.
You can see a sample Dim Sum menu, including the Xiao Long Bao here.
Hearing of the awards, the restaurant tweeted congratulations to other winners @ShikumenUk: " We’re only 1 of 5 awarded #BibGourmand. Congratulations @BlixenLondon @tabernamercado @DehesaSoho @LamorosaLondon."
Azou, at 375 King Street, run by husband and wife team Chris and Christine Benarab, is an established favourite with local people, offering the very best in Moroccan, Algerian & Tunisian cuisine in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere amid North African crafts and music, tent-like drapes and dusky lighting.
As well as being awarded the Bib Gourmand five years in a row, Azou has also been a winner in the H&F Brilliant Business Awards, being voted both Hammersmith's Best Food Business and the People's Choice in 2014.
You can view the menu at Azou here.
Two of our best known restaurants, Hammersmith's River Cafe and the Harwood Arms in Fulham, also retained their Michelin stars in new guide. You can see a full list of award winners here.
