Ten new waste electrical and electronic equipment banks - known as WEEE banks - are appearing at various points across the borough this week, where residents can drop off small electrical items that are no longer wanted or broken.

Accepted items include electrical tools, radios, hair dryers, kettles, computer keyboards, small laptops, mobile phones and electric toothbrushes. In fact any electrical item that can fit through the bin's lid, which is 600 cm by 360 cm will be accepted, recycled and created into something new.

The bins, which are black, are in these locations:

• Entrance to Waitrose car park, Heckfield Place, SW6 5BE
• Outside Clem Attlee Estate, opposite Norman Croft Primary School, Lillie Road, SW6 7RZ
• Eel Brook Common, New King's Road, SW6 4SG
• Outside the NCP car park, Glenthorne Road, W6 0LJ
• Outside Hammersmith Town Hall, King Street, W6 9JU
• Tesco car park, 180 Shepherds Bush Road, W6 7NL
• Behind Morrison’s car park, Charcroft Way, W12 8PP
• Uxbridge Road, opposite Askew Crescent, Uxbridge Road, W12 0NE
• Recycling Centre White City Estate, Canada Way, W12 7QR
• Old Oak Common / end of Erconwald Street, Erconwald Street, W12 0BP.

Councillor Greg Smith, cabinet member for residents’ services, saiys: "These banks are yet another way to get more people recycling more items - especially as many residents start their spring cleaning.

" Most of us have an unwanted radio or broken hairdryer lying around, and this is a great way to get rid of them safely and for free, rather than throwing them away in black bags for incineration, which is detrimental to the environment and costs a lot of money."

The WEEE banks do not accept large electrical items like televisions, microwaves or fridges. However, H&F residents can either get these items collected through the council’s bulky waste service, or can organise for clean furniture and goods that are in a good condition to be collected through the London Re-use Network, for using elsewhere.
