Council Consults Local People on Match Day Parking

Five public exhibitions running from this weekend

Residents and businesses are being asked for their views on whether or not match day only parking controls should be introduced to all streets in the south of the borough.

Hammersmith and Fulham is of course home to three major football clubs –  Queen’s Park Rangers in Shepherds Bush and Fulham and Chelsea, both based in Fulham.

Match day only parking schemes are already in place in Zones X and Y, near Fulham FC’s stadium, Craven Cottage.

Now, Hammersmith & Fulham Council is consulting residents and businesses in all parking zones south of Talgarth Road about possible changes to existing parking regulations and the possibility of extending the controls on match days in a bid to improve parking for permit holders and residents’ visitors.

Residents and businesses will be given a range of proposals in the consultation, including options about a match day only parking scheme, which runs from Monday November 22 until Friday December 17.

Council officers will be on hand to answer any questions about the consultations and proposals at five public exhibitions at:

St John’s Church, North End Road, SW6- November 27, 11am-4pm
William Morris Sixth Form, St Dunstans Road, W6- November 30, 5:30pm-8:30pm
St Etheldreda Church Hall, Cloncurry Street, SW6 – December 2, 5:30pm-8:30pm and December 4, 11am-4pm
Lady Margarets School, Parsons Green, SW6 – December 9, 5:30pm-8:30pm.

Residents can let the council know their views on parking in their area either via the website or by returning the form that will be posted to all residents and businesses in the controlled parking zones south of Talgarth Road from this weekend.

Councillor Nicholas Botterill, deputy leader and cabinet member for environment, says: “All the football teams help boost the borough’s economy but, along with attracting business, they attract thousands of supporters. Of course, this means there is a knock-on effect for traffic and parking on our roads which are already at capacity, and residents when they try to park outside their homes.

“We want residents and businesses to tell us their views on how we can improve the parking situation in the south of the borough, and balance the needs of residents and businesses against the influx of thousands of supporters coming to H&F for football games. We want our residents – many of whom have said they and their visitors struggle to find parking spaces when the football is on – to tell us what they want to happen.”
