Visitors Welcome this Weekend for Open House London 2017

Your chance to explore 18 of our borough's most fascinating buildings

The annual Open House London weekend sees the doors of 18 local buildings with historic or architectural interest open to visitors on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September.

This year offers another chance to explore familiar, much loved landmarks Fulham Palace, the Hurlingham Club and the Roca London Gallery in Fulham; Hammersmith Town Hall, Colet House, Emery Walker's House, Kelmscott House, home of the William Morris Society and the award winning Maggie's Centre, pictured below, in Hammersmith; and the Bush Theatre and the Erno Goldfinger designed Greenside Primary School, containing a restored mural by Gordon Cullen, in Shepherd's Bush.

As part of Open House, Greenside School will be hosting a graphic art fair on Sunday 17 September called Bouncing Off the Wall, with prints, posters and books for sale at an event where visitors can meet artists and illustrators. There will also be guided tours of the building taking place every 20 minutes between midday and 5pm.

At 155 Talgarth Road, London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, of LAMDA, is holding a community day on Sunday 17 September, 10am-5pm, at its Barons Court base as part of Open House London. This event will allow visitors to explore LAMDA’s new £28.2million centre for drama training, including two new theatres: The Sainsbury Theatre and The Carne Studio Theatre.

There will be storytelling sessions and stage combat demonstrations, as well as details of the different LAMDA qualifications on offer. Teas, coffees, drinks and snacks will be available, and entry is free.

Unusual buildings opening their doors include the former Tin House in Devonport Road, pictured above, and Bulwer Yard in Bulwer Street, both in Shepherd's Bush, and the Kenneth Armitage Foundation in Avonmore Road, built by Arts and Crafts pioneer James M MacLaren.

The Koestler Arts Centre, in the former Governor's House of Wormwood Scrubs Prison in Du Cane Road is the UK's leading prison arts charity and is open on Saturday 16 September, with paintings, drawing and sculpture, all for sale, covering its walls and plinths.

New to Open House in 2017 are Community Rain Park Bridget Joyce Square in Australia Road, the Grade II listed 184 Shepherd's Bush Road, six floors of offices topped by an innovative glass dome and White City Place, former BBC buildings in Wood Lane now being recycled to accommodate many new users including the Royal College of Arts.
