Olympia’s redevelopment is set to bring a boost to public transport in west London as new peak-time shuttle services begin operating between Clapham Junction and Shepherd’s Bush. The additional trains, funded by the team behind the £1.3 billion transformation of Olympia, will start running on Monday 18 May and are designed to ease crowding, cut journey times and improve access to the growing entertainment district.

Transport for London will introduce 16 extra weekday services on the Mildmay line, increasing capacity by 20 per cent in the morning peak and 33 per cent in the evening. The shuttles will run between Clapham Junction’s Platform 17 and Shepherd’s Bush, where passengers can interchange with the Central line and reach Westfield London.

The new services respond to rising demand on this section of the Overground, which already serves commuters, shoppers and visitors travelling between south-west and west London. TfL expects the extra trains to reduce crowding and make journeys more reliable during the busiest parts of the day.

The funding agreement comes from global investors Yoo Capital and DFI, who are leading the overhaul of Olympia as it approaches its 140th anniversary. The redevelopment will introduce new hotels, bars, restaurants, offices, public spaces and two major cultural venues: the British Airways ARC music venue and the British Airways Theatre, the largest new theatre to open in London in half a century.

Olympia Estates CEO Michael Volkert said the partnership with TfL is intended to ensure the site is easy to reach as it begins opening new venues later this year. He described the agreement as a key step in making the destination accessible to Londoners and visitors.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, welcomed the additional services, saying they will make journeys “easier and more comfortable” and contribute to a greener transport network. TfL’s London Overground General Manager Rory O’Neill said the five-year deal will help the network meet growing demand and support visitors travelling to events at the revamped Olympia.

The new shuttle trains will begin operating from 18 May, departing from Platform 17 at Clapham Junction.
