Hospital Campaigners Hold Rally and Party for NHS' Anniversary

And invite residents to join them at Charing Cross on July 5

Campaigners fighting to stop local hospitals being downgraded and losing their "blue-light" A&E departments are holding a combined rally and party celebrating the 66th anniversary of the NHS on July 5.

The event will begin at 2pm in Fulham Palace Road outside Charing Cross Hospital and will continue with a rally/party in nearby Frank Banfield Park.

Save Our Hospitals campaigners say the party will be attended by doctors, politicians, celebs and activists and there will be music, family games, cupcakes and more.

They say: " People in Hammersmith and Fulham face losing their blue light A&Es at Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals, around 300 acute beds and the CX (Charing Cross) intensive care and stroke units.

"It's ridiculous - nearby casualty units are already overflowing or due to close themselves and community health services are over-stretched and under-resourced.

"Let's show the pen-pushers and accountants behind this decision that local people will fight to save our local NHS.

" Come to demonstrate outside Charing Cross Hospital then move onto Frank Banfield Park to celebrate the NHS' birthday with a rally, entertainment, stalls and a birthday cake."

The new Labour council in Hammersmith and Fulham Council has pledged to defend Charing Cross Hospital, but no further details have yet been announced and the closure of Hammersmith Hospital's A & E department and replacement with an urgent care centre is still provisionally scheduled to take place on September 10.
