H&F Council Reassures Families over Hoax Bomb Threats

Says local schools 'taking extra care to keep things calm and secure'

Hammersmith & Fulham Council has issued a message reassuring local families following the hoax bomb threats that have been sent to 400 schools in England.

The message, published today on the council's website says: "As you may be aware from the media, there has been a series of bomb hoax emails to schools across the country today.

"There is no need for alarm. The police don’t think the threats are credible but are investigating them as a crime.

"We have a well-rehearsed process for dealing with threats to schools and ensuring our children and staff are safe.

"All schools have been alerted and will be taking extra
care to keep things calm and secure."

The threats, with schools in London among targets, claimed to have sent in a student with a bomb timed to go off within three hours and demanded payments of 5,000 dollars to prevent it.

However police have said that they do not believe the threats are credible and said evacuation of schools is unnecessary.

A Met police spokeswoman said: "Police are investigating reports of communications made to a number of schools across London today, Monday, 19 March. There have been no arrests. Inquiries are ongoing."
