Last Chance to Respond to Consultation over 20mph Speed Limit
Residents invited to join the debate by deadline of July 31
Hammersmith and Fulham Council says that more than 350 residents so far have given their views on plans to introduce a 20mph speed limit across Hammersmith & Fulham.
A public consultation into the proposals was launched on 9 June and runs until 31 July. The public are being invited to have their say on whether or not to implement a reduced speed limit in the borough and if so, where they think it should apply.
The survey is live online on the H&F website, with postal consultation packs shortly arriving through letterboxes across the borough to ensure those without internet access can also get their views heard.
“It’s great that so many residents have been quick to give us their opinions and interesting to read the mix of views from those supporting the scheme and those people with reservations,” says Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.
“We still need to make sure as many people as possible respond, including young people, so we hope everyone will get online, or post their answers back to us. The more views we get back, the better understanding we will have of how the whole borough feels, not just those who have responded already. This in turn will help shape any future decisions.”
Of those who have responded so far, more than 280 are borough residents, with the remainder being business owners, office workers, or those representing a community group.
H&F Council is considering a borough-wide 20mph speed limit in an effort to reduce the number of casualties on the road, to promote public health by encouraging more walking and cycling and to make neighbourhoods more pleasant.
