Second year of mayoral support for drop in day centre in Talgarth Road
Hammersmith's new Mayor Cllr Daryl Brown has chosen to support The Barons Court Project as her Mayoral charity during her mayoral year.
The project, a day centre offering a range of practical services to people who are homeless or living with mental health issues, has an impressive record in helping people in Hammersmith & Fulham.
One of the new Mayor's first duties after being inaurgurated on 23 May was to visit the project in Talgarth Road, along with Stephen Farrow, Tournament Director at Queens Tennis Club.
The project, which offers a friendly, safe and welcoming space, a subsidised cafe, showers, laundry and IT suite, said on its Facebook page: "It was a joy to host The Mayor and Stephen and to talk about our work."
This is the second year that the Barons Court Project has been chosen as a Mayoral charity. Last year's Mayor, Michael Cartwright also chose to support it, raising over £25,000 for project during his year in office.
Earlier this year, Hammersmith & Fulham Council transferred the freehold of the project's
building at 69 Talgarth Road under its community Asset Transfer Programme, in order to safeguard the premises against any potential commercial redevelopment for
generations to come. It also provided the project with the freedom to work with partners to provide
more services to people who are homeless or living with mental health problems
and in need of support.
