Cllr Michael Cartwright is New Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham


Hammersmith Broadway councillor takes over from Cllr Mercy Umeh

Cllr Michael Cartwright was named the new Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham at the Annual Council meeting at Hammersmith Town Hall on Wednesday 17 May.

Cllr Cartwright, who is a retired Chartered Quantity Surveyor, is Deputy Leader of the Council and a Labour councillor representing Hammersmith Broadway ward along with Council Leader, Cllr Stephen Cowan and Cllr P J Murphy.

One of his first engagements will be unveiling a new statue of 'England's greatest landscape gardener' Capability Brown on Hammersmith's riverside on 24 May. You can read more about this here.

Cllr Cartwright will also be expected to choose his mayoral charity, which he will support during his time as Mayor.

He takes over from Cllr Mercy Umeh, who has held the ceremonial role since 2014. Her chosen charities during the last year were Hammersmith and Fulham Foodbank and mental health charity Hammersmith and Fulham Mind.
