And raising almost £1,700 funds for Standing Together Against Domestic Violence
Local councillor Lisa Homan has thanked friends and colleagues for their 'fantastic support' after she completed her first London Marathon - and raised almost £1,700 for Hammersmith charity.
Lisa Homan, Labour councillor for Askew ward, and also cabinet member responsible for housing at Hammersmith and Fulham council took on the "maddest thing I've ever done' after being successful in the marathon ballot.
She decided to use her spot to raise money for Standing Together Against Domestic Violence, based on Hammersmith's King Street.
While training for the 26 mile marathon, Lisa said: " Standing Together Against Domestic Violence does brilliant work supporting victims of domestic violence, both in the borough and beyond.
" It’s my first marathon so I won’t pretend I am not nervous, but I am pleased to have the opportunity to support this fantastic charity and highlight their positive work."
Launched more than 13 years ago, Standing Together works to promote a co-ordinated, multi-agency community response to domestic violence. This approach recognises that no one agency can tackle domestic violence effectively if acting alone.
Lisa was aiming to raise £1,000 for the charity but has raced past that target, to date raising £1,670.80 along with dozens of good luck wishes, including many from both Labour and Tory colleagues.
You can still support Lisa in the marathon and help boost the work of Standing Together at her JustGiving page.
