Temporary facility opens in King Street on Monday October 7
Hammersmith Library in Shepherd's Bush Road is now closed ahead of refurbishment which begins on Monday October and is expected to last until summer 2014.
In the meantime, a temporary facility will open at 181 King Street from Monday, October 7 and Hammersmith and Fulham Council says that during this period, local residents will also be able to use alternative large libraries at Shepherds Bush Westfield and High Street Kensington.
The council says refurbishment of Hammersmith Library will take the best elements of the 1905 Grade II listed building and combine it with the modern feel of Shepherd's Bush Library, which has proved highly popular since opening in September 2009.
Hammersmith Temporary Library at 181 King Street, next to the Town Hall and close to Ravenscourt Park tube station, will be open seven days a week, with the following opening times:
Sunday 11am - 5pm
Monday 10am - 8pm
Tuesday 10am - 8pm
Wednesday 10am - 8pm
Thursday 10am - 8pm
Friday 10am - 5pm
Saturday 10am - 5pm
Hammersmith Temporary Library will closed on the following days:
25 December 2013 Christmas Day
26 December 2013 Boxing Day
01 January 2014 New Year's Day
The library has a fully accessible public toilet with baby changing facilities. For enquires, renewals and computer bookings, call 020 8753 3820.
Improvements to Hammersmith Library will include:
The borough’s archives and local studies collection are currently housed at the Lila Huset on Talgarth Road, for which the lease expires in 2016. The council intends that the archives will be housed at the refurbished Hammersmith Library, with greatly increased public access.
The council is investing £340,000 into the scheme, with the remainder funded through Section 106 agreements with the developer of the 10 Hammersmith Grove on the Hammersmith Grove NCP site, Development Securities and St George, the developer of Sovereign Court, on the Kings Mall car park site.
