Launching new programme of concert and talks in Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush
KOFMA - the Kensington Olympia Festival of Music and the Arts returns from this weekend with a brand new progamme of music and talks at venues in Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush.
Unlike previous years, the festival will continue with regular events through till the end of the year.
Here is the programme for this summer, starting on 18 May:
Bach Miniature Masterpieces -
Friday 18 May,
7.30pm
St Peter’s Church, Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith
A rare opportunity to experience a dramatic,
ecstatic and soul-searching programme of
keynote miniature masterpieces by the old
master, locally at the beautifully restored
Georgian masterpiece, St Peter’s Church, in
Black Lion Lane.
These works encompass and perhaps even
excel in range and intensity, Bach’s great
choral and orchestral masterpieces, such as
the Passions and Brandenburg concertos.
Directed by Ashley Stafford they are
performed by a virtuoso ensemble of
professionals, with soloists mezzo-soprano
Laura Lamph, soprano Charlotte Bröker,
and solo Baroque trumpet Joel Newsome – Hubbard with
David Coram organ.
Women of Smoky Wars -
Sunday 20 May,
6pm
Irish Cultural Centre, Black’s Road, Hammersmith
Wars. Created by men. Fought by men. But this isn’t their story. Our ancient bard recounts the tales of wars, not through men’s eyes, but women’s. And not just any women, but women of another famous bard – Shakespeare. Journey with our ancient Bard, as Shakespeare’s Queens, mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters take the stage to tell you their stories.
Created, directed and presented by alumni from LAMDA’s MA Classical Acting for the Professional Theatre.
“The fire-eyed maid of smoky war
All hot and bleeding will we offer them.”
Shakespeare (Henry IV, Part I)
VIVALDI’S OTHER GLORIA -
Saturday 16 June,
6pm
St Luke’s Church, Uxbridge Road, W12 0NS
Tickets: Standard £15 Student £10
The choir Aves Cantantes, directed by Miles Lallemant are joined by professional instrumentalists and singers to present Vivaldi’s rarely heard Gloria. The Gloria is the lesser known of his two surviving Gloria’s and is in our opinion, in no way inferior.
More events follow in the autumn. Find out more on KOFMA's website. Tickets available to book here or call 07779 108 108.
