Mass Punch and Kick-a-thon Held in Fulham

Karate club raise funds for youth charity Teens and Toddlers

Members of one of the UK’s largest karate institutions have hosted a mass sponsored Punch and Kick-a-thon in Fulham aid of a youth charity.

More than 50 martial arts trainees and experts took part in the energetic fundraising event coordinated by the Fulham dojo of World Seido Karate.

The organisation will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year. Seido Karate members were invited to do a physically intense round of 1000 kicks, 1000 punches, and a circuit of press-ups and sit-ups.

The members raised over £1,000 with proceed donated to Teens and Toddlers an award-winning charity helping thousands of secondary school pupils in socially deprived areas. The charity is the only UK organisation that helps school pupils to boost their life skills and attainment, by engaging them as mentors to children in nurseries.

The event was organised by Paul Brown, a Karate enthusiast who works as an Executive for private equity firm Bridgepoint, and the head instructor of the Fulham Dojo, Brandt Leitch, who is the technical director for Seido Karate in the UK. Bridgepoint’s Charitable Trust currently funds Teens and Toddlers youth development programmes benefitting young people in disadvantaged areas.

Paul says: " I believe Teens and Toddlers' goal of teaching skills and responsibility to young people is extremely worthwhile. It resonates with some of the work that I’ve done with other charities in the past, most notably the English Speaking Union’s debating mentorship programmes."

Representatives from Teens and Toddlers' Young Leaders group attended the Punch and Kick-a-thon to cheer on Paul and his fellow karate students. Since 2001 the charity has helped to transform the lives of young people considered at risk of dropping out of education. To date the organisation, which uses positive psychology to boost the aspirations and attainment of struggling school pupils, has reached more than 14,000 teenagers and young children.
