The Irish Cultural Centre in Blacks Road is promising the ultimate St Patrick's Day celebration tonight, March 17 from 7pm onwards.

Music will be provided by two legendary bands, Le Chéile and Beoga.

Le Chéile was formed from musicians who played regularly in The White Hart on Fulham Broadway in the early 1970’s. Le Chéile were the cult trad Irish group of 1970s London, producing some of the most memorable recordings of the time.

The surviving original band members – master fiddler Danny Meehan, Liam Farrell (banjo), John Roe (piano) and Kevin Boyle (guitar) – reformed alongside new recruits, flautist Paul Gallagher and Andy Martyn (box).

Beoga (Irish word for ‘lively’) are based in County Antrim, in the north of Ireland. The bedrock of their sound lies firmly within the Irish tradition. However, they are not afraid to incorporate other genres.

Their distinctive sound is described by New York’s Irish Echo as “a heady, virtually head-spinning sonic blend, stamping Beoga as perhaps the most audacious Irish band rooted in trad today.”
