Tragic Suicide at Putney Bridge hotel

Student on school trip jumped from top floor

A student on a school trip from Italy has committed suicide by jumping from the top floor of the Premier Inn at Putney Bridge.

The 18 year-old girl reportedly sneaked through the staff area of the hotel around 8.30pm last Thursday and climbed up a fire escape before jumping off an eighth floor balcony.

It is believed some of her friends tried to stop her, but couldn't reach her in time.

A rapid response team of doctors and paramedics from the HEMS air ambulance unit rushed to the scene but were unable to save the teenager, who was pronounced dead at St George's Hospital in Tooting.

Detectives from Fulham CID are investigating and have been reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel, but her death is not being treated as suspicious. The results of a post mortem examination are expected to be released this week.

One person working in the Eight Bells pub, which faces the hotel, told the Fulham Chronicle:  "It's terrible. Someone who had seen it happen came running over to the pub and asked if anyone knew first aid.

"She was on a school trip, and a group of her friends all came and put flowers there. It's horrendous."

The student was reportedly suffering from serious health and personal problems. Her father is believed to have flown over to visit the scene, and the school group returned to Italy on Saturday.
