A person has died following a fire at a block of flats this Thursday (22 September) on the North End Road.

The blaze broke out shortly before 3pm on the sixth floor of the building by the junction with Thaxton Road across from the Holiday Inn.

No further details have been released of the deceased other than that they were pronounced dead at the scene after being discovered by fire fighters.

Half of the flat was damaged by fire but it did not spread elsewhere in the block. 50 people fled the building although some chose to remain inside.

It took the Fire Brigade just over an hour to get the incident under control with forty firefighters at the scene. Fire crews from Fulham, Hammersmith, Kensington, Wandsworth, Battersea and North Kensington fire stations attended.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
