Police believe they know identity of victim
Police say they have arrested two teenagers over the fatal shooting of a young man on Lakeside Road on Monday afternoon, and believe they know the identity of the victim.
The latest police statement says that on May one man aged 19 was arrested in connection with the
inquiry and he remains in custody at a west London police station.
Later on the same evening a teenage boy aged 17 was arrested on
suspicion of murder and is currently in custody at a west London police
station.
The statement continues: "Detectives continue to appeal for witnesses and information after a
murder in West Kensington.
Police were alerted at approximately 4.10pm on Monday May 9 re a shooting at
Lakeside Road W14.
" Officers and the air ambulance attended, but the victim, aged in his
twenties was confirmed dead at the scene.
" A post-mortem is scheduled to take place at Fulham Mortuary on Wednesday
May 11.
" We believe we know the identity of the victim and are in the process of
tracing next-of-kin. We await formal identification.
" Inquiries are underway to fully establish the circumstances of the
incident, but it is known that the victim was sitting in the driver's
seat of a parked car when he was shot by a lone suspect.
" We retain an open mind re any motive at this stage. "
An incident room has opened under DI Mark Gower of the Trident unit, which investigates gun crime in the black community.
DI Gower says: "This incident happened at a busy time of the day just
off the Shepherds Bush Road and there would have been lots of people in
the area at the time.
"There will be people who witnessed what has happened and we urge you to
come forward if you have any information. Trident understand and support
the community and will work closely with witnesses who may have concerns
about coming forward."
