Driver of speeding car arrested on Shepherd's Bush Road
Hammersmith and Fulham Police say that a woman police officer who was hit by a car in Shepherd's Bush Road on Thursday afternoon was not seriously injured.
The officer was knocked down after becoming involved in a car chase around 3.30pm.
Police had blocked the path of an orange car which was speeding up Shepherd's Bush Road with a squad car outside Hammersmith Library.
The car mounted the pavement and officers ran from the nearby police station to cut off the driver's escape.
The female officer stood in the road to block the car's path, but the driver knocked her down.
The car was then stopped almost immediately at Brook Green and the driver arrested.
At around 4.30pm, police tweeted @MPSHammful: " Shepherds Bush Rd is closed after 1 of our PC's was injured in a road accident. 1 arrested. PC is at hospital. Rd will open as soon possible"
Two hours later, as many colleagues and local residents took to Twitter to wish the officer a speedy recovery, they tweeted an update: " Pleased to report our colleague is not seriously injured but that doesn't lessen the seriousness of the incident."
The incident led to the closure of Shepherd's Bush Road during the rush hour, leading to tailback on all local roads, but around 6.30pm TfL Traffic News tweeted @TfLTrafficNews: "Shepherds Bush Rd - The restrictions have been lifted. All lanes have now been RE-OPENED following an earlier police investigation. "
