Hammersmith & Fulham Council has announced a second wave of funding from its King Charles III Coronation Youth Fund, awarding nearly £430,000 to 21 local organisations that support young people aged 11 to 24. The grants were unveiled this month at Fulham Reach Boat Club, one of the recipients, during a launch event attended by council leaders, charity representatives, and young rowers from Hammersmith Academy.

The fund, launched in 2023 to mark the coronation of King Charles III, reflects the monarch’s long-standing commitment to youth opportunity through initiatives like the Prince’s Trust. It is entirely financed through developer contributions negotiated by the council, and aims to expand access to arts, sport, mentoring, and wellbeing programmes across the borough.

Deputy Leader Cllr Alex Sanderson said the fund was about “keeping young people safe, confident and connected” and helping them “build the skills that will shape their futures.” She added: “This round of funding will back everything from heritage projects and dance programmes to wellbeing activities and mentoring. It’s another step in our work to build a stronger, safer and kinder borough.”

H&F remains one of the few councils in London still funding youth clubs and activities directly.

Among the beneficiaries is Fulham Reach Boat Club, which received £25,000 to expand its state school rowing programme. The club, which provides access to rowing for over 2,000 young people annually, will use the grant to reach more underrepresented and disadvantaged students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities.

The club previously received £15,798 in the fund’s first round, enabling 705 students to participate in over 5,700 rowing sessions, supported by more than 6,300 hours of coaching.
